NRG are the last team confirmed at ESL One New York after defeating Complexity 3-0 (19-16 on Mirage and 16-14 on Inferno) in the North America Closed Qualifier.
The best-of-five grand final kicked off on Mirage, with NRG holding the line for a 3-0 lead before Complexity snapped the streak with two in a row. The two sides battled back and forth for the lead, with Complexity picking up three rounds on the T-side to make it 5-4, but in the end, NRG’s stout defense led by Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov rounded out the remaining six rounds for a 10-5 lead at halftime.
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and his men wasted no time deflating NRG with a stellar showing on the CT-side, with 8 assertive rounds to take the lead (13-10). However, NRG showed signs of life from Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte’s quad-kill in the following round, then, a striking 1v1 from CeRq over Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker paved the way for two more to edge the lead (14-13). Complexity then managed to skim by, winning two to reach map point with little economy, but a relentless NRG struck back to force overtime.
NRG were the first to strike in the extra rounds before a determined Complexity evened things out at 16-16, but NRG kept their composure to end the half with a 17-16 scoreline. In the end, NRG sealed the map victory with two in a row to secure the 2-0 series lead, entering the series with a map advantage coming from the upper bracket.
The series then landed on Inferno, with NRG rallying back on the attacking side, taking an early 4-1 lead after Rory "dephh" Jackson tapped down three to secure the pistol. Complexity then managed to scrape together a shoddy buy that eventually saw the CTs defend for five straight to make it 6-4. NRG secured four in a row, but Complexity promptly ended the 7-8 half with a retake on B.
The second half saw Complexity hound down on NRG’s defense with six consecutive rounds to take the 13-8 lead, before NRG pulled their wits together to win their first of the half. NRG picked up their second right before Complexity contested, but Jacob "FugLy" Medina and co. stretched a dazzling run on the CT-side to win six straight to secure the 16-14 map victory and the 3-0 series win to secure a spot in the Big Apple.
